Sel et Poivre: Give me some of that yum-yum

Calves Liver a la Lyonnaise
It's been a while since I first visited Sel et Poivre as I live and work on the West side of this lovely island and getting to the UES is, well, a bit of a trek. However, when an important appointment brought me there this evening, I was very excited to revisit this gem. I was also interested in revisiting "undercover" since my previous visit had been for a press dinner (original Sel et Poivre review).

I was dining alone and chose a little table in front of the sidewalk where I could enjoy the fresh air and people watch. It was really hard not to order the Skate since in the 2 1/2 years since my first visit I haven't had an order of Skate that even comes close to being as amazing as the one here. However, I've got an iron deficiency, so Liver was Doctor's orders. Now I haven't had a lot of liver, but I've tried a bite here and there and have not been a fan. However, I remember being pleasantly surprised last time, so wanted to give it a go.

I informed the waiter that I would be having the liver and asked him to recommend a wine pairing which he did with delight. In fact, all of the wait staff I encountered were delightful- I felt like they were old friends by the end of my meal. The beautiful bread basket of fresh baked bread appeared with some really good quality butter.

At this point, I felt like I had been magically whisked away to Paris. I've never been, but everything I've heard about the Parisian way of life is that they take time to really luxuriate in their meals. And this is exactly what I did. I put my fork down between each bite and savored it with all of my senses. It was incredible.

I am happy to report that Sel et Poivre is every bit as wonderful as I remembered and can not recommend visiting here highly enough!
