Grimaldi's: Pepperoni Pizza

Did you know there's a Grimaldi's outpost in Kips Bay? We sure didn't! That is until today when we went to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug with a couple of friends at the Kips Bay movie theatre and they suggested grabbing some pizza for lunch. "Sure!" I said and started heading West assuming we were headed to Limelight Marketplace. "Where are you going??" said my friend as he started heading South on 2nd Ave. I tend to keep up on NYC food news so was really surprised this slipped under my radar.

What makes this story even better is that we actually had a surprise birthday luncheon planned for this friend. Luckily, my co-conspirator knew what's up so everyone was waiting for us at the correct location. And yes, in case you didn't notice this was a surprise lunch for him, but HE is the one that suggested going there. We know him pretty well.

The restaurant itself is kind of a weird space, but just fine for a super casual pizzeria. We were there during the post-lunch pre-dinner lull so got to hang out for a while enjoying pizza and chatting. The pizza was the top quality that you associate with the Grimaldi name, so it was a fantastic afternoon! Definitely a perfect pre or post Kips Bay movie bite.
