The Grey Dog is Top Dog

Last week I had an early Doctor's appointment and was looking for a place to grab an iced coffee on my way to work. I'd heard of The Grey Dog's Coffee before and was going to pass right by it, so I stopped by. The instant I stepped in the door I felt like I had been transported to Austin. Part coffee shop, part brunch haven, part bar, it reminded me a lot of Austin Java Co. I knew I needed to bring The Mr by here for brunch, lunch, or happy hour immediately.

When the first opportunity arose, we headed over for brunch. This time when we walked in, it smelled exactly like Kerby Lane (another Austin classic). Instantly The Mr picked up on the same vibe I did. This is our kind of place...now what about the food?

Challah French Toast with Strawberries

Breakfast Quesadilla
"Whoa" you say, "why are there three dishes?". Well because we loved it so much we came back the very next day. On both occasions The Mr ordered his favorite item, The Breakfast Sandwich with sausage. Served on a flaky, buttery croissant with melted American Cheese and a side of crispy hash browns this is a breakfast classic. On the first day, I couldn't decide between the Breakfast Quesadilla and the French Toast and made a last minute decision to go sweet. The challah bread is so light that it's almost like eating angel food cake. Also, the fruit to toast ratio was perfect. So on Round 2 the Breakfast Quesadilla was up. Served with sour cream and salsa verde, this dish lived up to Austin standards.

This place just skyrocketed to the top of our favorite spots in town and we look forward to coming here to hang out with a beer and to try their sandwiches. Oh, and their coffee was darn good too.
