In Complete Concord with Union Square Cafe

Amazingly, we never managed to have a meal at Union Square Cafe when we lived over by Union Square. Not for lack of trying of course, this has been on my must-try list for quite some time. So when my parents were in town and I wanted to show them some of the best this great city has to offer, this is where I took them.

I don't often order chicken, but when I know it is going to be really well prepared, sometimes it really hits the spot. Also, today's menu with the root vegetables and flavored mashed potatoes just really hooked me. I was NOT disappointed. I was really good and saved half of it to take home to enjoy for lunch the next day, but full disclosure? I ate it as soon as I got home- it was just that good.

My parents also swooned over their dishes, and they like to contribute to the blog, so let me photograph their plates as well. My Dad threw a complete curveball and ordered the tuna steak- I have never in my life witnessed him eating a tuna steak. I guess he was similarly inspired to order something a bit off the beaten path when you have the confidence that it will be exquisitely prepared.

My Mom ordered the Lasagna, and while she also had intentions of saving some for the next day, lost all sense of control after the first few bites. It was OK though, since we all agreed that the portion sizes were perfect and left us satisfied, but not feeling stuffed and disgusting.

There's a very good reason Union Square Cafe has been a top NYC restaurant for so many years in a row and it's because Danny Meyer is about serving the highest quality food. I hope to be back soon, but I might have to try Gramercy Tavern, 11 Madison, and/or Maialino next time I'm in the area.
